Christophe Rousset, the founder of Les Talens Lyriques, is an internationally renowned harpsichordist and conductor inspired by a passion for opera and the exploration of the European musical heritage.
After harpsichord studies at La Schola Cantorum in Paris with Huguette Dreyfus, and subsequently at the Conservatoire Royal in The Hague with Bob van Asperen (winning, at the age of 22, the prestigious First Prize in the 7th Bruges Harpsichord Competition), followed by the creation of his own ensemble, Les Talens Lyriques, in 1991, Christophe Rousset has a perfect grasp of the rich wealth and diversity of the baroque and classical repertoires.
Having initially attracted the notice of the international press and record companies with his extraordinary talent as a harpsichordist, he soon went on to make his mark as a young and gifted conductor, earning invitations to perform with his ensemble at venues throughout the world (among them De Nederlandse Opera, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Salle Pleyel, Opéra de Lausanne, Teatro Real, Theater an der Wien, Opéra Royal de Versailles, Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, Barbican Centre, Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Aix-en-Provence and

Christophe Rousset (born 1961) is a French harpsichordist and conductor, specializing in the performance of baroque music on period instruments.
Born in Avignon, Rousset grew up in Aix-en-Provence and developed an interest in the harpsichord during his early teens.
He studied at the Schola Cantorum in Paris under Huguette Dreyfus and from 1980 to 1983 he attended the Royal Conservatory at the Hague under Bob van Asperen.
In 1983 Rousset won first prize at the 7th International Harpsichord Competition at Bruges; subsequently, his career as a soloist commenced and he appeared with ensembles such as: The Academy of Ancient Music, Les Arts Florissants, Musica Antiqua Köln, La Petite Bande and Il Seminario Musicale.
With Les Arts Florissants he gained his first conducting experience as assistant to conductor William Christie. In 1991 his ambition for conducting led to the foundation of Les Talens Lyriques, the ensemble which he has conducted to international acclaim ever since.
Rousset was music director of the 1994 film Farinelli Il Castrato, based the life of Farinelli, the famous castrato. He is also active as teacher of baroque music at Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena.
